Kalpaka Rezidence

Kalpaka Rezidence is located in a peaceful area in the heart of the capital - in a prestigious quarter where history meets modern architecture.

The building at Kalpaka boulevard 7 is the middle of a group of three buildings designed by architect J.F. Baumanis. Due to the unified rhythm of the composition, the classical Kalpaka boulevard 7 building coexists perfectly with the stylistically different neo-Gothic building at Kalpaka boulevard 5 and the neo-Renaissance building at Kalpaka boulevard 9. The building at Kalpaka boulevard was built in 1874-1879 and is located in the so-called Riga boulevard circle, which is characterized by Art Nouveau architecture. The building is an architectural monument of national importance and as a part of the center of Riga, is a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site. The building is located northeast of Old Riga, in a convenient location with well-developed infrastructure, prestigious office and business centers, shops, cafes, restaurants, embassies (about 20 in total - Finland, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and Sweden, etc.), etc.

Kalpaka Rezidence was designed in 1874 as a four-storey rent house. Five years later a roof storey was added to the building. The location of the building has always been considered as prestigious because it was erected on one of the first boulevards of Riga, in a green and beautiful neighbourhood, in the very heart of the city. The eclectic layout, classic interior was kept in the renovated interior of the building, very similar to the initial one, and the exterior of the building still features a facade decor with the ornamental motifs of classicism.

Name and achievements of Mr. Baumanis should be written in the golden archives of the Latvian architecture. In his relatively short lifespan, Mr. Baumanis proved that a profession of architect is possible and available also to Latvians, and he has designed approximately 150 buildings – both public and rent buildings, including Kalpaka Rezidence. Buildings of the first three Latvian Song Festivals, the Saeima building, Academy of Music, Riga Regional Court as well as the first Latvian Society House, which was designed as the classic order in three storeys with a garret, are just few of the remarkable works of Mr. Baumanis.

Interior: Modern and ergonomic kitchens, fine quality plumbing and elegant details have been added to the historical interior.

The historical parquet was restored in the apartments and there are classical interior elements with unique painting, splendid wall and ceiling decors of the 19th century.

Seven apartments have splendid fire-places which can give warmth in cool autumn and winter evenings. Each fire-place has its own unique design, historically designed according to the room it is situated in.

Some apartments have ceilings as high as 3.5 metres and unique ceiling and wall ornaments of the 19th century.
